Breastfeeding reduce the risk of obesity and diabetes – Mothers who have babies do not be lazy to breastfeed. Therefore, these habits can help prevent children developing diabetes and obesity later in life. Recent findings indicate that infants fed with breast milk have a growth pattern that is different from those who drink formula, so that they have better health in the future.

The findings from the LIFE-Faculty of Life Sciences at Copenhagen University in Denmark-also states that the longer the period of breastfeeding, the lower the weight gain of children when they are 18 months old. These results are the findings of an analysis of a larger study of diet and well-being over 330 children when they were aged 9, 18, and 36 months.

According to experts and our Health and Beauty’s dictionary, breastfeeding lowers the growth hormone IGF-I and insulin in the blood that is slowing growth, even when the children have started to eat solid foods. The slower weight gain is known to support healthy eating. Instead, the formula milk increases the production of fat cells that trigger weight gain during childhood.

Anja Lykke Madsen, a member of the research team, stated that breastfeeding has a significant and measurable effect on the important growth regulators in the blood, IGF-I and insulin. The longer a child is breastfed, the lower the levels of this hormone.

Madsen said that these findings suggest that children have fewer opportunities to be overweight later in childhood. So, breastfeeding reduce the risk of obesity and diabetes.

Research also shows that breast milk protects babies against bacteria in the stomach, chest infections, asthma, skin diseases, allergies, and generally carry many health benefits in the next age. In addition, breast milk can also reduce the risk of pre-menopausal, breast cancer and ovarian cancer, as well as osteoporosis in women. Breastfeeding also helps new mothers in restoring their ideal weight. Therefore, breastfeeding burns 500 extra calories per day.

The UK Health Department recommends that babies exclusively breastfed for six months their early age. But England is the country with the lowest breastfeeding rates in Europe. Nearly one in three new mothers never tried to breastfeed her baby. When the baby was four months old, as much as 75 percent of babies in the UK drinking milk formula instead of breast milk. By contrast, in Sweden, 98 percent of new mothers breast-feed her child.

Results of previous studies show that formula-fed infants are weaned too early-before the six-month-become the fastest-growing child.

Professor Kim Fleischer Michaelson of Copenhagen University, said that, it is well known that children who are breastfed grow more slowly than those who were fed formula and seems optimal growth pattern because it lowers the risk of disease in the future.

However, Michaelson said, the latest research results also showed that breastfeeding affects the levels of IGF-I and insulin at the age of nine months, when children are able to eat solid food well. The longer a baby is breastfed, the lower their weight at the age of 18 months. So it is evident that breastfeeding reduce the risk of obesity and diabetes.
